Tunisian Scouts Practice Democracy

Three years ago, this country sent vibes of the Arab Spring to the rest of the world. Three years ago, seeing our young scouts mimicking politicians in final scout parties seemed like a far-fetched illusion. Three years ago, the idea of holding a 100% youth-led event in our scout organization sounded a silly whim. How sweet it is to see that dreams come true in Tunisia? How great it is to see young girl and boy scouts patrolling the stage in front of their peers cheering the results of transparent advisers’ elections!

NSYF / First Day

The participants started arriving group by group to our hotel in Hammamet , a coastal city in Tunisia,around 11 am. Coming from the 24 governorates of Tunisia, they all united in colors after they had received the forum’s official scarves. Once they got settled in their rooms, they met in the front yard to do some icebreakers and get to know one another. After lunch, the team building activities started.

Preparations at Full Swing

The organizing team arrived early evening to start the preparations before the arrival of the participants the next morning. After dinner, a planning meeting took place to have everybody on board with their tasks. The logistic preparations were later kicked off and the team members collectively unwrapped bags, scarves and stickers to be given to the participants upon arrival.
